So, Oliver, what are the advantages or disadvantages of dealing with a Family Office?Oliver Woolley
Well, as a company raising money from a Family Office, there aren’t any real disadvantages over and above the obligation of taking on external finance from anyone. The advantages are that they can provide sometimes a full range of public services or whether it’s as a Finance Director or office space or access to online markets, and also they can be very supportive in further funding rounds. So, if the company needs further funding – perhaps because it is not doing quite so well as planned – or, because they actually do better than planned and needs to increase working capital. They have got the depth of pocket to follow them on it.Neil Ackroyd
And I guess that is a real key question. I mean if a business certainly just takes off, you know, in most industries, that will have an immediate cash requirement before the profits get released and it’s always easier to go to somebody who understands the business in the first place.Oliver Woolley
Yes, exactly. And I think one of the main issues with regards for a company raising finance is that quite often they need extra finance, because if it doesn’t do so well they need more funding, but if it does do well they need more working capital to finance growth.Neil Ackroyd, Founder of CFTV, talks to Oliver Woolley, Founder of Envestors, about the advantages and disadvantages of dealing with a family office.
